Meulaboh

Meulaboh is a zone World Vision is working in which is located in the Aceh province of Sumatra.

The tsunami devasted tens of thouands of people here.

Palm trees near the beach
The fog was a bit eerie
A pond created from the tsunami near the beach
The beach where the tsunami hit in Meulaboh
Robertho, the jokster of the group
Me and Ira enjoying the warm water
Me and Nicola at the beach
Some kids enjoying the ocean
Tuti and me stop for a pose
Before the tsunami hit these waters were land as the water was drawn out further to see. Many locals ran out to grab the fish just flopping around and were hit hard by the tsunami.

Meulaboh coffee. Those are ground coffee beans at the top of the glass
Almost looks like ice cream!
The coffee is drunk by sticking the straw slightly under the cup
Nicola, me, Martha, Robertho, Tuti, and Edou enjoying a meal at a western cafe
I think this guy is a lizard, but he reminds me of the Geico gecko. There are always a bunch of these running on the walls everywhere--inside and outside. At least they eat the mosquitos
This is the UN plane at the Meulaboh airport that I took back to Banda Aceh on my first trip(40 minutes)
Indonesian humor at its best. This is a coffee shop at the Meulaboh airport. Meulaboh is another area on the northwest coast of Sumatra that was devastated by the tsunami.
The UN plane we flew back to Banda Aceh on, on my second trip
Nicola excited for our first helicopter ride
Tight quarters...that's the luggage compartment in front of Nicola.
To Nicola's left you notice the window is open...you can just stick your hand out of it while you're flying around!
We even had a flight attendant!
