Bukit Lawang

The bus we took to Bukit Lawang, three hours from Medan.
The accomodations were less than desirable, but it was less than $1 each way.
An interesting monkey suction cupped to our bus

Indonesians are very photogenic. As soon as they see anyone with a camera they say 'take my picture, take my picture'. This guy was selling some snacks on the bus before it departed and asked to have his photo taken : )
Nicola excited about her birthday weekend trip to see the Orangutans.
Some of the hotels ruined by the floods of 2003.

This proud mom balanced her baby while he slept
This was the orangutan that chased us
It's hard to tell from this picture, but this is what I climed down. There's only a slight angle to the hill and all you have to hold onto are roots.
This is a picture of me absolutely miserable from our 4 hour trek. We stopped at a fresh water river for some food wrapped in a leaf before the last 1.5 hours of our trek.
Lunch: Fried rice, fried egg, cucumbers and tomatos. I don't know what those white things are--I didn't eat them.
Me, soaking wet from sweat and exhausted after a 5 hour trek through the jungle.
The river, with some light rapids, that we went tubing down.
